The last few days the Massachusetts Department of Transportation has been doing roadwork on Rt 6 (U.S. 6) in Wellfleet. Consisting of grinding and repaving of worn sections of pavement. This has been causing traffic delays in the last few days in Wellfleet. Today travel lanes have been coned off allowing though traffic in both directions, unlike the previous days when only one lane was open, with traffic being alternated between it leading to much longer delays. The work is sorely needed as no major maintenance has been done to the road way in years and leaving the paving badly cracked. In the winter water gets in these cracks and expands causing additional cracking and lifting of the pavement which in turn leads to faster deterioration of the road surface. According the the latest release by the Wellfleet Police Department today should be the last day of roadwork.
